Hoheiten,
Exzellenzen,
Verehrte Gäste,

Prince Daniel and I are very happy to be back in Berlin – a city that embraces diversity, creativity and openness. Where cultures, ideas, and visions come together, just as the Nordic countries do here.

A year ago, we had the honour of attending the solemn commemoration of the National Day of Mourning – Volkstrauerstag. And to stand with you to remember those who suffered under war, tyranny, and oppression. Reflecting on the past is important to truly grasp and cherish the shared values of freedom, democracy and human rights. Values that bind the Nordic countries and Germany together. Values that we must protect, as they can never be taken for granted.

Today, our countries stand together as NATO allies, firmly supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and freedom in the face of Russia’s brutal war of aggression.

In challenging times, true friendship matters even more. The ties between the Nordic countries and Germany are strong and deep. And looking to the years to come, there is great potential in further developing our cooperation in many areas of shared interest.

This year, Sweden holds the presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers with a focus on making the Nordic region safer, greener and freer.

These priorities are also reflected in Sweden’s and Germany’s enhanced bilateral “innovation partnership”. A partnership signed during Chancellor Scholz’s visit to Stockholm in May, where he met with the heads of government from all the Nordic countries.

Common challenges demand common solutions. Let our strong Nordic and Nordic-German cooperation serve as both an inspiration and a contribution to a bright future.

With our nations so close in distance and united by deep personal ties and shared values, there is no better place to celebrate our Nordic-German relationship than at the 25th anniversary of the “Nordische Botschaften” in Berlin.

Nochmal herzlichen Glückwunsch zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum!
