The King and Queen visit Great Britain

On 26–27 May, The King and Queen visited Cambridge and London together with Minister for Education Anna Ekström.

Thursday began with a visit to the Astra Zeneca Discovery Centre in Cambridge. More than 2,000 people work to develop new pharmaceuticals at the research facility, which opened in November 2021.

During the visit, The King and Queen learnt about Astra Zeneca's Swedish-British cooperation and how the company worked to develop vaccinations at the beginning of the pandemic. The King and Queen were also informed about the company's work relating to the climate and sustainability, and within innovation, research and life science.

Gala première of ABBA Voyage

In the evening, The King and Queen attended the gala première of ABBA Voyage, which took place at the specially built ABBA Arena in London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The Impact sustainability conference

On Friday 27 May, The King and Queen attended the Swedish Chamber of Commerce's Impact conference in London. The King and Queen were welcomed by CEO of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce Peter Sandberg.

Impact is the Swedish Chamber of Commerce's annual sustainability conference, which brings together industry, political decision-makers, influencers, the media, and academics from Sweden and Great Britain to discuss sustainability issues.

The conference included several panel discussions with representatives from Swedish and British industry.

Signing a memorandum of understanding

A memorandum of understanding on life science between Sweden and Great Britain was then signed in the presence of The King and Queen.

Minister Ekström and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Technology, Innovation and Life Sciences Lord Kamall began the ceremony by giving speeches, after which they signed the memorandum of understanding.
