The King and The Crown Princess attend the Stockholm +50 environmental conference

On Thursday 2 June, The King and The Crown Princess attended the Stockholm +50 environmental conference at Stockholmsmässan.

On arrival at Stockholmsmässan, The King and The Crown Princess were met by Prime Minster Magdalena Andersson and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The conference began with an opening speech from The King, in which he said:

Fifty years and several environment conferences have passed since that historic meeting in Stockholm in 1972.

“We have come a long way since then. But let me be clear: we do not have fifty more years to turn the development around.”

During the first session of the conference, the nations present reported on their climate work and negotiations took place on a number of decisions.

The King and The Crown Princess then took part in two bilateral discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and with President of the General Assembly of the United Nations Abdulla Shahid.

Reception at the Royal Palace

In the evening, The King hosted a reception at the Royal Palace for heads of state and government, ambassadors, ministers and UN representatives in connection with the Stockholm +50 environment conference.

The reception was held in the Victoria Salon at the Royal Palace, where the guests were introduced to The King.
