It is accepted international practice that a new ambassador in a country is always given the opportunity to meet the head of state, although the ceremonies vary in different countries. In Sweden, the reception of a foreign envoy follows a traditional ceremony, and is quite unique with its centuries old traditions.

The foreign envoys received by The King during the formal audiences were:

  • Thailand's ambassador Arunrung Phothong Humphreys
  • The Holy See's apostolic nuncio Julio Murat
  • Austria's ambassador Doris Danler
  • Djibouti's ambassador Aden Mohamed Dileita

The envoys from Thailand, the Holy See and Djibouti were accredited via special arrangements earlier this year, but had the opportunity to attend formal audiences with The King during today's ceremonies.

Orders

When The King received Thailand's ambassador, he wore the Order of the Rajamitrabhorn. When receiving the Holy See's apostolic nuncio, The King wore the Order and Chain of Pope Pius IX. The King wore the Order of Merit of the Austrian Republic during his audience with Austria's ambassador.
