HRH Prince Daniel's opening speech at the dinner for Confederation of European Business

City Hall, Stockholm

(The spoken version shall take precedence)

Commissioner,
Prime Minister,
Excellences,
Presidents,
Ladies and gentlemen

Welcome to Sweden and to Stockholm!

First, I want to thank our host, Jacob Wallenberg, for the kind invitation to join you this evening, here in the beautiful Golden Hall.

At a time when different crises are darkening the skies over Europe and European businesses, it is certainly important to be able to meet like this, to discuss common challenges and possible solutions.

Ladies and gentlemen. Sweden is a prosperous country. But it hasn’t always been that way. Having once been one of Europe’s poorest countries, entrepreneurship and trade took us from poverty to prosperity. Today, Sweden is an export-oriented economy and a frontrunner in the global green transition.

Openness to trade. Openness to people. Openness to ideas. Paired with entrepreneurship, openness transforms societies. And I believe it is critical for the future that organisations such as yours keep championing these values.

Ladies and gentlemen, once again, welcome to Stockholm. I look forward to a pleasant evening together!
