Princess Margaretha
The Swedish Royal Family belongs to the Bernadotte dynasty, who have held the Swedish throne for over 200 years.
Princess Margaretha, 1899–1977
Princess Margaretha Sofia Lovisa Ingeborg of Sweden, Princess of Denmark, was born at Villa Parkudden on Djurgården in Stockholm in June 1899. She was the daughter of Prince Carl and Ingeborg of Denmark. She was known as Tante Ta to her family.
In Sweden, as a teenager, she took part in a course with the Child Welfare Society and organised charity work with disadvantaged children. Almost a month before turning twenty, she married Prince Aksel of Denmark (1888-1964). Theirs was a very happy marriage, and their home was always filled with joy and high spirits. After the death of her husband, Margaretha travelled extensively and often visited Sweden.
Princess Margaretha died in Denmark in 1977 at the age of 77.
